Sports have always been a powerful way to connect cultures, open opportunities, and transform lives. In Costa Rica, volleyball continues to grow at youth and community levels, and new international collaborations are creating exciting possibilities for athletes, coaches, and young leaders.
Through a partnership between Amistad Abroad, EWE Tours and Voleibol Costa Rica, we are developing a new initiative that combines volleyball training, international exchange, and community volunteer experiences.
Our first step in this process will take place in the United States, where we will participate in the NEQ Volleyball Tournament, one of the most important youth volleyball competitions in North America.
This participation will allow us to introduce Costa Rica’s volleyball community to international partners and begin building relationships that support future exchange programs.
Why international volleyball exchanges matter
Youth sports are not only about competition. They are also about learning, exposure, and personal growth.
International volleyball exchanges allow athletes to:
Experience different styles of play
Train with coaches from other countries
Participate in high-level tournaments
Develop independence and cultural awareness
Explore academic opportunities connected to sports
These experiences help young athletes grow not only as players, but also as global citizens.
Sports and volunteerism: a deeper international experience
A central element of this initiative is the integration of community engagement and volunteer opportunities into the sports experience.
Through Amistad Abroad, international participants will have the opportunity to combine volleyball training and competition with meaningful community activities such as:
Youth sports outreach programs
Community sports clinics
Environmental or conservation projects
Cultural exchange activities with local communities
This approach reflects a growing model of sports-based service learning, where athletic participation becomes part of a broader educational and cultural experience.
Costa Rica as a destination for sports and cultural exchange
Costa Rica offers a unique environment for programs that combine sports, education, and community engagement.
International participants can experience:
Volleyball training and friendly competitions
Spanish language immersion
Cultural exploration across Costa Rica
Volunteer experiences that support local communities
This combination of sports, culture, language, and service creates an experience that goes far beyond traditional sports travel.
From tournaments to long-term exchange programs
Our participation at the NEQ Volleyball Tournament will allow us to connect with:
International clubs
Volleyball coaches and training programs
Universities and academic sports programs
Sports travel organizations
These connections will help us develop future initiatives such as:
Volleyball training camps in Costa Rica
International sports and volunteer exchange programs
Summer volleyball experiences
Competitive tours for Costa Rican teams abroad
A new vision for volleyball development
At Voleibol Costa Rica, we believe that the future of sports development includes international collaboration, cultural exchange, and meaningful engagement with communities.
Together with Amistad Abroad, and EWE Tours, we are working to create programs that connect athletes, cultures, and communities through volleyball.
This is only the beginning.
